Marie-Aimée Roger-Miclos

Marie-Aimée Roger-Miclos (May 1, 1860 — May 19, 1951) was a French pianist of international acclaim. One reviewer described her as "an artist of interesting and unconventional qualities, possessing a strongly marked sense of rhythm, brilliant and incisive touch, and her playing is marked with certainty, that adds tonal charm to brilliancy". Camille Saint-Saëns and Joseph O'Kelly dedicated piano pieces to her, and she taught piano at the Conservatoire de Paris. Her work lives on in her recordings, which include piano pieces by Frédéric Chopin and Felix Mendelssohn.

Monoceros

Monoceros, Canis Minor and Atelier Typographique

This illustration was produced in around 1823 and comes from Urania's Mirror, a set of 32 astronomical star chart cards. Monoceros is a faint constellation on the celestial equator and not easily visible to the naked eye. The constellation is fancifully represented here by a prancing unicorn being ridden by a small dog. Urania's Mirror was originally advertised as containing "all the constellations visible in the British Empire" but that was not in fact the case, as some of the southern constellations are missing. The first edition included only the stars in the featured constellation, with the surrounding stars blanked out; this illustration is from the second edition and includes the surrounding stars.
